Shalom is not just a generic word for "peace." When more authentically translated from the Hebrew root "shalam" it conveys an inward sense of completeness; a state of well-being that includes good health. 

Shalom as a greeting expresses one's sincere desire for another's wholeness and completeness of body, mind, and spiritual health and well-being.
